Manuelle Therapie

What and why Manual Therapy to the voice box (Larynx)?

What do I offer?

Who benefits from this Manual Therapy?

Symptoms

Voice and swallowing problems (MTD), refers to a group of symptoms such as: hoarseness, loss of vocal stamina, loss of vocal range, unstable pitch, loss pf flexibility while singing, a lump in the throat, throat clearing/coughing to try and get rid of something stuck in the throat, jaw problems, nonspecific pain and discomfort, clicking sounds while swallowing, as well as general swallowing, difficulties and shortness of breath.

Those are common complaints that a medical investigation provides no satisfactory explanation for.
Those symptoms result from a prolonged muscle tension leading to limitations in the range of motion of the jaw and larynx joints in neurologically healthy clients without vocal fold lesions or other defects.

Goals

The goals as a properly trained manual therapist are to identify tense muscles, stiff joints in the functional areas of breathing, speaking voice, singing voice, and swallowing, to diagnose the area of decreased activity and to offer a specific treatment to retore normal function.
In my speech therapy work, I successfully integrate MT also into the treatment of neurological and traumatic conditions, where symptoms often include voice, speech, and swallowing disorders.
Manual Therapy (MT) of the larynx is a direct specific treatment addressed at stretching laryngeal muscles and improving it’s joint movement.

The integrated approach of manual therapy was researched and developed by Jacob Lieberman, registered Osteopath and Psychotherapist.
The diagnosis and treatment is distinct from none specific throat massage techniques. This specific MT is based on the functional diagnosis and rational treatment plan.
It should be noted that manual therapy is not part of the curriculum in speech therapy education but rather an additional qualification.

Your Therapist

I am Feodora Fahrig-Mühlbach, a speech therapist for about 25 years and practice owner, as well as a certified therapist in MT by Jacob Lieberman. I accompany his courses and support him in guiding participants during the intensive practical part, “hands on.” Our long-standing cooperation benefits our clients and patients through interdisciplinary exchange via video or regularly in my practice. The MT is a private pay service.
